About us
About our school...
We are proud of our school and in particular of the way we look after the personal development and well-being of our children. Our children are happy in school and want to come here to learn. This was recognised by OFSTED in 2009 and is central to our ethos.
A large and spacious converted three-storey block that contains Years 2, 3 and 4, the administration office, Head teacher’s office, an IT suite’ a medical room, a meeting room and bookshop and spacious hall that is used as a Physical Education hall, dining hall and for acts of collective worship; a purpose built block that provides class bases for Foundation 2 and Year 1. There is an outside play area attached to the block that children can access for outdoor activities. Each Year group in this block has a library that can also be used for group activities. Foundation 2 has a small 'cafe' that offers the children a range of healthy snacks.
The school also has a Music room and Library on the second level of the main block and a room that can be used as a drama and assembly room for Years 3 and 4.
At the front of the school is large grassed area surrounded by trees and featuring a large play structure comprising of two towers, a bridge, a climbing ramp, slide and climbing rail. Facing this area, and separated by an enclosed road, is the main playground. This consists of a one rectangular area with a hard surface that can be used for ball games and other play activities. Adjoining this is a wooded area with another play structure and two concrete table tennis tables. A path connects the play apparatus to the main play area. At the back of the main school building is another play area with a soft synthetic surface that is ideal for all types of physical games.
There are three Foundation Stage 1 settings catering for children from 3 to 4 years of age. One setting, Normandy FS1, is adjacent to the school; Dempsey FS1 is situated about 5 minutes by car from the school in Dempsey barracks and Teddy Bears FS1 is also 5 minutes away by car in a housing estate. The Foundation Stage (1 and 2) was recognised by OFSTED in 2009 as providing an excellent early years education to our families.
The school's curriculum is based on providing our children with the skills necessary to be successful adults. This means that we place great emphasis on children being literate, numerate and proficient in ICT skills. We place equal emphasis on enabling our children to develop their creativity and personal, emotional and social skills. We believe that for our children to be successful in the 21st century they need to be able to work with others to find solutions to problems. They also need to be resilient, resourceful and responsible. These are qualities that we try to foster in our children.
